No Limits
Currently available in Waikato
Overview
The "No Limits" programme has been specifically established for children/youth with disabilities who wish to attend mainstream type leisure and recreation activities, eg, Scouts or school holiday programmes, who need extra support to enable them to do so.
The participants are given the opportunity to attend a mainstream holiday programme or after school activity of their choice, with a carer there to attending to their special needs whilst on the programme.
LIFE Unlimited accesses funding for the carer from Disability Support Link (Waikato's Needs Assessment Service Co-ordination agency), once an assessment of needs has been completed.
The "No Limits" Co-ordinator's position is funded through New Zealand Lottery Youth.
LIFE Unlimited undertakes the training, co-ordinates the carers and fundraises to support the administration and training towards this programme.
Philosophy of the Programme
The programme involves the integration of children/youth with disabilities into mainstream leisure activities. The children/youth with disabilities are often in the position where they have not had the opportunity to socialise with children of their own age group. The child/youth's carer ensures the safety, toileting, feeding and behavioural needs are consistently met. The carer also ensures the child/youth is involved in the activities to the best of their abilities.
